In a bid to address the concerns and challenges faced by importers and exporters, the Ghana Shippers’ Authority (GSA) organized an Exporters Forum in the Volta Region. The aim was to minimize time-related costs such as rent, demurrage, loss of cargo, etc.
The forum, held in Ho on Thursday, 30th November 2023, served as a dedicated platform for exporters to voice their issues, seek solutions, and engage in constructive dialogue with relevant stakeholders. The GSA, cognizant of the pivotal role that shippers play in the economic landscape, strategically designed this event to foster a collaborative environment.
During the engaging sessions, key topics were addressed, including customs rules, warehousing, forwarding processes, and financial aspects related to export. The aim was not only to highlight the existing challenges but also to propose effective strategies and solutions that could streamline export processes.
Addressing the participants, the Tema Branch Manager of the GSA, Mr. Charles Sey, underscored the critical need for a cohesive approach towards policies, regulations, and practices involving all relevant parties. He emphasized the significance of creating a positive business atmosphere and also stressed the need for innovative solutions and a steadfast commitment to creating an environment conducive to international business growth, hinged on structural transformation to position Ghana as a formidable export-led industrialized economy.
The forum also featured a presentation by Mr. Paul Kobina Mensah, the CEO of Mass Logistics, on ‘Planning to reduce the cost of export shipments’. He shared valuable insights on various strategies for successful export businesses, further contributing to the collective effort to elevate Ghana’s export sector to new heights.
The Exporters Forum is part of a broader initiative by the GSA to create sustained awareness, facilitate discussions, and address the evolving needs of importers and exporters. By actively involving stakeholders, the GSA aims to contribute significantly to the enhancement of capabilities, reduction of trade barriers, and promotion of a thriving business environment.
