The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has advised motorists approaching the Brimso Bridge on the N6 (Accra-Kumasi Highway) to drive with care.
The bridge is situated between Bunso (Linda Dor Rest Stop) and Anyinasin Junction on the N6 Highway when approaching Accra from Kumasi and between Anyinasin Junction and Linda Dor Rest Stop when approaching Kumasi from Accra.
This follows a Road Safety Alert the Authority received.
“… motorists approaching Brimso Bridge are advised to drive with caution and at reduced speed, especially at night due to poor visibility,” a statement cited by 3news dated March 24 indicates.
According to the statement, “The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) has, upon complaints regarding safety concerns on the
Brimso Bridge on the N6 (Accra-Kumasi Highways) inspected the section of the road and observed as follows;
1. The guard rails on both sides of the bridge are broken and could create hazardous conditions if vehicles
veer off that section of the road.
2. There is a noticeable depression on the bitumen surface of the bridge, causing vehicles to bounce while
passing, which could lead to loss of control, especially at high speeds.
3. There are no warning signals to alert drivers of the upcoming bridge, increasing the risk of sudden
braking or misjudgment.
4. Furthermore, visibility at the bridge is very poor at night due to the absence of streetlights.
The NRSA said it has notified the Ghana Highway Authority “of the road safety risks identified and the necessity to address them.”
