Director-General of the National Road Safety Authority (NRSA), Abraham Amaliba has issued a stern warning to clear pedestrian walkways across the country.
Hawkers and food vendors have now and then occupied pedestrian walkways in the country. An issue which has been a concern to many as it partially contributes to road crashes.
In an interview with Keminni Amanor on TV3’s Hot Issues, Abraham Amaliba noted that his outfit will collaborate with the various District Assemblies to ensure that pedestrian walkways are free.
“It is just collaboration with the District Assemblies…I want my pedestrian walkway to be free so that pedestrian will not be walking and competing with motorists on the street, if that is done, I am glad,” he said on Sunday, March 23, 2025.
The Director-General clarified that his interest is only to ensure that these hawkers and food vendors are cleared off the pedestrian walkways and not completely sack them from the streets.
“I am not interested in sending them completely away from the streets. I want my pedestrian walkways to be free so if you can put your wares outside the pedestrian walkway and still be sitting close, I have no problem.
“The rest can be done by District Assemblies if they want to evict them completely,” he added.
