St. John Bosco’s College of Education in the Kassena-Nankana Municipality of the Upper East Region has launched a Sanitation Day Campaign aimed at promoting cleanliness and environmental responsibility among its students and staff.
The initiative, officially launched on Saturday, March 22, 2025, seeks to instill discipline and a sense of responsibility in maintaining a clean and hygienic environment within the school and beyond.
According to the Acting Principal, Dr. Nyaaba Rudolf, the campaign has four key objectives:
- Instilling a sense of responsibility in maintaining cleanliness.
- Reducing waste accumulation and promoting proper waste management.
- Raising awareness about sanitation and its impact on health and well-being.
- Setting an example for surrounding communities, reinforcing the belief that a clean environment fosters a healthier and more productive society.
Dr. Nyaaba urged the entire school community to work collectively to achieve these objectives.
“Let’s create a community that is environmentally responsible. This is a call to action for everyone—students, faculty, non-teaching staff, and all stakeholders,” he emphasized.
The guest speaker, Benjamin Anyanah, CEO of BC Bencyn Group, encouraged students to take ownership of their environment and develop a positive attitude toward sanitation and waste management.
“You can bring about better change; it is about the mindset. Damaging the environment is caused by you and me, and we have the power to change that,” he stated.
Anyanah further urged the school’s management to make Sanitation Day a regular event and explore innovative ways to recycle plastic waste.
“Picking plastic is not a one-time event. It is worth making the necessary sacrifices to eliminate it by turning plastic waste into something beneficial for society,” he emphasized.
As part of the campaign launch, students and staff participated in a clean-up exercise across the school compound, marking the beginning of their renewed commitment to environmental conservation.
The initiative is expected to have a lasting positive impact on both the school and the broader community, fostering a culture of environmental stewardship.
