President of Ghana, John Dramani Mahama has expressed his unwavering faith in the team’s ability despite the team’s recent slump in major tournaments.
Mahama gave the Black Stars a resounding vote of confidence, charging them to step up and seize the opportunity in their upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers during his first to the team’s training camp.
President Mahama made a surprise visit to the Black Stars’ training session at the Accra Sports Stadium on Wednesday, accompanied by Minister of Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams, who has been a regular presence in the team’s camp since they began training on Monday.
Addressing the players and technical team, President Mahama conceded that the Black Stars had hit a rough patch recently, but expressed his unwavering faith in their ability to turn the tide
“We didn’t qualify for the AFCON. But even when we qualified for the AFCON, we crashed out very early the last time. And so we haven’t given up on you. We still believe that the Black Stars can find its glory again. And it’s dependent on you, the technical team, and the management committee.”
He emphasized that the team’s success hinges on their collective effort to step up their game and play to their full potential.
Mahama reminded the players that the nation is rooting for them but it’s up to them to take their game to the next level and deliver the goods on the pitch.
“The goals will come from these feet that are right here. And so it takes sacrifice. It takes strength. We all like to watch you when you play for your teams, and we expect that you bring some of that dedication to the national team.”
With their World Cup qualification hopes on the line, the Black Stars are gearing up to face Chad on March 21 at the Accra Sports Stadium before making a tricky trip to Morocco to face Madagascar on March 24.
Mahama’s vote of confidence is a timely boost for the team as they look to regain their footing and make a strong push for qualification.
