Liverpool are not for sale, and their owners, Fenway Sports Group (FSG), have not received any formal approaches, despite recent speculation involving the world’s richest man Elon Musk.
During an interview with Times Radio, Elon’s father Errol Musk hinted at his son’s potential interest in acquiring the Premier League club. “I can’t comment on that. They’ll raise the price,” he said when asked about Musk’s rumoured interest. When pressed further, he added, “Oh, yes. But that doesn’t mean he’s buying it. He would like to, yes, obviously. Anybody would want to—so would I.”
FSG, who acquired Liverpool for £300 million in 2010, have previously explored avenues for external investment but have never considered a full sale of the club. Forbes valued Liverpool at £4.3 billion in May 2023, making it the fourth most valuable football club globally. However, this valuation represents just over one percent of Musk’s estimated net worth of £340 billion.
Errol Musk also referenced the family’s connections to Liverpool, which might explain the rumoured interest. “His grandmother was born in Liverpool, and we have relatives there. We were fortunate to know quite a lot of the Beatles because they grew up with some of my family. So, we are attached to Liverpool, you know,” he said.
While the speculation has stirred excitement among fans, FSG maintains its stance, reaffirming that the club is not currently on the market.
