Chief of Staff Julius Debrah has spoken about his reappointment and what Ghanaians can expect from President-elect John Dramani Mahama‘s administration in the next four years.
In an interview with Channel One TV, Mr. Debrah shared insights into his role and the president’s vision for governance.
Reflecting on his appointment, Mr. Debrah said he was honoured but not entirely certain about being reappointed.
“I knew I could be part of the presidential team, but I wasn’t too sure. It’s the prerogative of the president. However, in his wisdom, he believes I will be able to hold this office together,” he stated.
When asked if the president was rewarding loyalty with appointments, he explained, “Not necessarily. The main reason is that the president wants people who can work. In addition, I’m someone who can second guess him.”
He further noted that President Mahama prioritises competence and the ability to deliver results over loyalty.
Mr. Debrah urged Ghanaians to remain hopeful, assuring them of a government focused on minimizing mistakes and fulfilling its promises. “Since he’s been in office before, you can be assured we will try to minimize mistakes and get everything right,” he said.
He emphasized that accountability will be central to President Mahama’s governance. “Without accountability, nothing works in governance. You have to ensure people do not abuse their positions and that public funds are managed responsibly,” he concluded.
