The inauguration of President-elect John Dramani Mahama and his Vice President-elect, Jane Naana-Opoku Agyemang is set for Tuesday, January 7, 2025, at the Independence Square.
This historic occasion has drawn significant attention both domestically and internationally.
The event, which marks Mahama’s return to the presidency, is expected to be attended by 21 Heads of State, alongside three Vice Presidents, four Ministers, and 24 envoys. This exceptional gathering underscores the global recognition of Ghana’s political transition.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Information, the swearing-in ceremony will also feature a wide range of dignitaries from across the world.
Security measures in Place for Mahama’s inauguration
The Ghana Police Service has announced comprehensive security arrangements for the swearing-in of President-elect John Dramani Mahama and Vice President-elect Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang on Tuesday, January 7, 2025.
According to a statement from the police, several roads within Accra will be closed to both vehicular and pedestrian traffic from 6:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. to ensure safety and smooth proceedings. Areas affected include the Ako Adjei Interchange, AU Roundabout, State House, Osu Cemetery Traffic Light, Independence Square, and surrounding roads.
Motorists are advised to use alternative routes, as key roads like the 28th February Road, Starlet 91 Road, and Lokko Street will be diverted. Suggested detours include Salem Avenue and Abdul Nasser-Gamel Road.
Parking spaces for attendees have been designated at the Forecourt of the State House, Effua Sutherland Park, and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture premises.
The police have also reminded residents within the security perimeter, invited dignitaries, and the general public to adhere to the directives for a peaceful ceremony.
