At the midway point of the Premier League season, the coordinates and markers have been laid.
Ipswich Town, Leicester City, and Southampton, are involved in an intense relegation battle, while the top four race gets increasingly intriguing, with Liverpool, Arsenal, Nottingham Forest and Chelsea all occupying the Champions League spots.
However, the key actors in the bid to see their teams flourish are the players.
To that end, three Ghanaian stars could secure moves away from their respective clubs.
Arsenal’s Thomas Partey, Brighton and Hove Albion’s Tariq Lamptey & Jeffery Schulpp are among the players out of contract in the summer.
3Sports takes a closer look at the Ghanaian Premier League stars who are out of contract in the summer.
Thomas Partey, Arsenal
Undoubtedly, the biggest name among the three players on the list. Partey has been at Arsenal since 2020, after joining the club from Spanish outfit Atletico Madrid.
Plagued by injuries, Arsenal have seen little of the midfielder in his four-year stay at the club.
Partey has spent ample time on the sidelines rather than the pitch.
However, the 2024/25 season has been a new lease of life for the 31-year-old.
With 18 Premier League games and six Champions League games under his belt, Thomas has been one of Arsenal’s consistent performers.
His four-goal involvements in the league, underscores his impact to Arsenal’s title push.
On June 30, 2025, Partey will officially become a free agent.
Barcelona, as it stands, are the front runners to land Partey on a free despise the constant interest from the Middle East.
Pressed upon Partey’s contractual situation in November, his manager Arteta remained tight-lipped, but acknowledged the Ghanaian’s consistency.
“We will have the right time to discuss about the situation.
“He is showing consistency at the highest level, again because his availability and the way that he feels physically is allowing him to do that, and I am very pleased with that.”
In his time in England, Partey has made 113 Premier League appearances, four EFL, two FA Cup appearances as well as a host of Champions League and Europa League appearances, while scoring seven goals and providing five assists in the process.
His 13 goal involvements in 141 Arsenal outings is a significantly low return, which will not really bother Arsenal fans given how much he impacts the game from a deep defensive area, winning tackles, intercepting balls and progressing the ball forward.
Tariq Lamptey, Brighton and Hove Albion
Lamptey, just like Partey, has been significantly hampered by injuries in his time with the Seagulls.
A combination of factors, including, injuries and tactical tweaks by various managers has seen Tariq Lamptey struggle at Brighton.
Rising through Chelsea’s ranks, Lamptey joined Brighton in the 2019/20 season for € 1.20m.
However, there’s been nothing significant to recall about his time in Brighton.
Clubs from Germany and England have shown significant interest in the player.
Lamptey has made 112 Brighton appearances, scoring five goals and providing 10 assists.
In the ongoing season, Lamptey has made a mere seven appearances, producing four goal involvements (two goals, two assists).
Essentially, with his fitness intact and a consistent run of games under his belt, Lamptey has shown that he can be effective in the Premier League – as evident in his most productive season so far.
A move is likely to be on the cards for him, owing to how difficult it may be for Brighton to genrate revenue from his sale given his injury records.
At the moment, a mutual agreement to leave the club in the summer will suit both parties.
Jeffery Schlupp, Crystal Palace
Schlupp’s Premier League winning exploits with Leicester City in the 2014/15 season seems a distant memory now.
The midfielder, who can easily slot into various roles and do a job for the team, has been at Crystal Palace since 2017.
He joined Palace for €13.8m after leaving Leicester City.
Schlupp has spent his entire playing days in England, starring for Brentford, Leicester City, and now Crystal Palace.
Entering the twilight of his career at 32, Schlupp could prove to be a squad player for any team that scoops him up.
As it stands, the Championship is proven to be a feasible destination for Schlupp.
Meanwhile, Jordan Ayew will be hoping his five goals and assist thus far will carry on to aid him stay at Leicester beyond his contract expiration next summer.
Other Ghanaian stars, including West Ham’s Mohammed Kudus, is under contract until 2028, while Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo’s contract runs out in June 2029.
Southampton’s Kamaldeen Sulemana has two years left on his current deal which runs out in 2027, with Fatawu Issahaku also under contract until 2029.
