The Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) has provided a detailed breakdown of the debt owed by McDan Aviation, which led to the closure of its private jet terminal at Kotoka International Airport (KIA) on December 30, 2024.
According to GACL, McDan Aviation owes over $3.9 million, accumulated over time for land leases, terminal fees, and rental charges. Despite repeated notices and a December 25, 2024, deadline for settlement, the majority of the debt remains unpaid.
Detailed Breakdown of McDan’s Debt
The breakdown provided by GACL includes:
- Terminal 1 Rent and Fees: $640,232.48
- Block Factory, Spintex Road (5.66 acres): $1,160,827.23
- Airport Logistics Building, Spintex Road (10.63 acres): $2,168,266.75
- Courier Enclave (0.59 acres): $8,140
- Cargo Village Offices: $18,156.20 (GHS 13,523.37)
GACL also highlighted that McDan is obligated to pay a 15% share of the gross revenue from September 1, 2022, to November 30, 2024, which is also outstanding.
Meanwhile, McDan Aviation has contested the debt amount, claiming that $2 million pertains to a disputed land acquisition currently under litigation.
The GACL further emphasized that McDan has already developed the land in question, despite the ongoing litigation. The company argues that McDan has been profiting from rental proceeds on the developed land without paying ground rent.
GACL maintains its position of demanding full payment for all outstanding debts from McDan Aviation.
