Ademola Lookman was the standout winner at the 2024 CAF Awards held in Marrakech, Morocco, on Monday, as the Atalanta and Nigeria forward was crowned CAF Men’s Player of the Year.
Lookman’s impressive year saw him follow in the footsteps of compatriot Victor Osimhen, marking the first back-to-back Nigerian winners since Nwankwo Kanu and Victor Ikpeba in the 1990s.
Zambia’s Barbra Banda clinched CAF Women’s Player of the Year after an incredible season in the U.S. National Women’s Soccer League, where she led Orlando Pride to the league title. Banda also broke records at the Paris Olympics, becoming the only player to score three hat-tricks in the competition’s history.
South African goalkeeper Ronwen Williams was another big winner, claiming two awards: CAF Goalkeeper of the Year and Men’s Interclub Player of the Year. Williams’ heroics helped Mamelodi Sundowns win the South African Premiership, while his penalty saves at AFCON 2023 led South Africa to a bronze medal.
