The Divisional Chief of Kwesimintsim, Nana Ogudzi Essoun III, has urged John Dramani Mahama, the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), to prioritize the Western Region in the next NDC administration.
This appeal is rooted in the region’s substantial contributions to the nation.
Nana Ogudzi Essoun III, made the appeal when the NDC flagbearer called on him on November 26.
“We, the chiefs of Effia Kwesimintsim Municipality, are urging you to prioritize the development of the Western Region. As a region, we contribute significantly to the country’s development, yet our infrastructure and living conditions are subpar. We implore you to take action and address the disparities in our region’s development,” he pleaded.
Mahama, currently on a campaign tour in the region, has pledged to continue stalled and ongoing projects initiated by the current government if he’s voted into power.
He also plans to revitalize the region’s economy by bringing back oil companies that have left due to the current hardship. This move is expected to boost the local economy and create jobs for residents under his 24-hour economy policy.
Mr Mahama questioned the development of the Western Region, highlighting the disparities in the region’s growth despite its significant contributions to the nation’s development.
“The global best practice is clear, sitting presidents shouldn’t honor themselves, but rather wait for their tenure to end and let their works and performance speak for themselves.”
“However, this current government is more interested in self-aggrandizement, touting unfinished projects and even erecting statues. Ironically, it’s the NDC that will likely complete these projects when we return to power. I’m confident that the NDC will make a comeback, bringing with us more jobs, development, and economic growth.”
“We’ll focus on reviving the oil and gas industry, which has been struggling due to the current economic hardship. I plan to engage with these companies, encouraging them to return and create more job opportunities for our youth. We’ll also involve them in our innovative 24-hour economy policy, designed to boost economic activity and growth.” He assured the general public.
Lawyer Fiifi Buckman, the NDC parliamentary candidate for the Kwesimintsim constituency, made some notable comments at the mini rally.
“Upon reviewing the projects initiated by the New Patriotic Party (NPP), it appears that none have been completed. Notably, the market circle project, road construction, and interchange have all stalled. However, only one project was completed and commissioned – the statue behind the Effia Nkwanta hospital.”
Fiifi Buckman pledged to construct libraries for his constituents. “We currently don’t have a single library in our constituency, despite having both Islamic and secular schools. My vision is to establish libraries for both Islamic schools and mainstream schools, recognizing that motivation is just as important as infrastructure. I’m committed to motivating students to compete at the national level during my tenure in office.” He mentioned.
