Ghana League Clubs Association (GHALCA) President, Kudjoe Fianoo, has urged Ghana FA President Kurt Okraku and his Executive Council members to “eat humble pie and resign” if the Black Stars fail to qualify for the 2025 AFCON.
The Black Stars are on the brink of elimination after four winless games, including a recent 2-0 loss to Sudan. Even two victories against Angola and Niger this month may not be enough, as Sudan only needs a single point from their remaining matches to qualify over Ghana.
Fianoo, foreseeing potential embarrassment, is calling for accountability, citing Ghana’s recent struggles, including early exits from the last two AFCON tournaments—a stark contrast to the team’s achievements before Okraku’s presidency, when Ghana reached consecutive semi-finals between 2006 and 2017.
“In a few days’ time, we will know our fate,” Fianoo said on Luv FM. “AFCON qualification has been automatic for Ghana over the past 20 years, even with strong contenders. Now, with 24 teams qualifying, it should be easier, yet we are struggling. If we fail to qualify, there’s no greater failure, and they must resign. In five years, we’ve changed about six coaches. What excuse can they offer for our poor performance?”

The former Ashgold CEO added that should Ghana miss out on the 2025 AFCON, the current FA leadership has proven it has little to offer Ghanaian football.
“We’ve gone to AFCON in Cameroon and Ivory Coast and didn’t make it past the group stage. If these are the results, what have we achieved?” he asked. “Consider the resources invested in these repeated failures, despite Ghana’s economic struggles. We spend all this money, and these are the results we get. Expecting applause for this is, frankly, disappointing.”
