The Agricultural Development Bank (ADB) has closed down its Bawku branch temporarily due to the ongoing security threats in the area.
ADB announced the closure in a statement on Facebook on November 1, 2024.
“The branch will resume operations as soon as the security situation in the area improves,” ADB said.
Meanwhile, the Bank’s electronic platform will continue to be available for use.
The decision is in the wake of the recent killing of 16 people in Bawku after renewed clashes. The latest unrest was triggered by the return of Seidu Abagre to Bawku on October 24, after his contentious enskinment as Bawku Naba in February 2023.
Despite the lack of legal recognition for this title, his presence has exacerbated tensions between rival factions, resulting in multiple clashes.
Government through the Interior Ministry has issued a curfew in the Bawku township.
