TV3 gets results: Buipe Market receives facelift after broadcast of its sorry state

In the aftermath of TV3’s broadcast showing the unhygienic and chaotic situation at the Buipe Market, the Member of Parliament for Yapei-Kusawgu Constituency, John Jinapor has come forward to address the issue.

Traders can now heave a sigh of relief to go about their business activities in a serene environment after the grading of the market by the MP a day after TV3 reported on the unsanitary conditions at the market.

The Buipe Market was engulfed with dirt and dozens of accumulated waste, which posed serious health risks to traders and consumers alike.

Member of Parliament for Yapei Kusawgu, John Jinapor was not pleased with the state of the market as shown in the bulletin and had to intervene to provide relief for the people.

John Jinapor ordered the levelling and reshaping of the market space to eradicate the waterlogged areas in the market.

 

With the singular act of the MP, some traders have been reacting to the swift response of the MP.

Fati Yusuf, a grains seller at the market, said, “Before, it was a challenge to even walk through the market, especially when it rained. The grading has made it easier to move around, and we are no longer exposed to as much dust and dirt. This will help us stay healthy and focus on our business.”

“We are really thankful to the MP for listening to our concerns. The market was in a terrible state, and we were worried about our health. Now that the gravelling is done, we can sell our goods without worrying about standing in mud or waste,” said a middle-aged trader called Sakina.

Tamimu Nureeden, an Assembly Member for the old Buipe electoral area, is grateful to TV3 for highlighting the situation that yielded positive results.

“I want to thank TV3 for bringing the unsanitary conditions of the Buipe market to the public’s attention. Without their report, this problem might have continued to be ignored.

He also extended his appreciation to the Member of Parliament, John Jinapor, for his swift response in grading the market. He added that, “the intervention has transformed the market, creating a better environment for business and improving the health and safety of everyone who comes here.”
