The Ashanti Sub-transmission team of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has conducted comprehensive ‘pro bono’ maintenance works on a KNUST substation, which had not seen any major maintenance in over four decades.
The servicing took place near the University’s Unity Hall, included replacement of battery and a rectifier by ECG to enhance the protection, control, and indication systems of the substation.
Speaking with the Director of Maintenance of the institution, the General Manager of Ashanti Sub-transmission, Ing. Peter Fletcher, assured the University that, this was merely the beginning of the positive initiatives ECG has planned for them.
“As corporate citizen, ECG has realized that about 85% of its engineers and non-engineers are being trained by the institution (KNUST),” he said.
Meanwhile, the Ashanti East and South Line Maintenance teams seized the opportunity during the downtime to fortify the network leading to the substation, repairing and reinforcing all the jumpers on the line.
