The Group Managing Director of Melcom Group of Companies, Ramesh Sadhwani, today (Friday) signed a Book of Condolence in memory of Godwin Avenorgbo at the Ghana International Press Centre.
The late Chairman of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) 75th Anniversary Planning Committee worked with the Melcom Group of Companies for about 13 years.
“Thank you for your dedicated service to your country and our company. You have served all with honour. We pray the Lord gives you peace and let you rest in eternal peace by His side,” he wrote in his tribute.
Mr Sadhwani had led a delegation from the Melcom Group of Companies to sign the Book of Condolence.
Earlier, in a meeting between the National Executive of the GJA and the Melcom delegation, the President, Albert Kwabena Dwumfour, said Godwin Avenorgbo was versatile and dynamic, adding, “We are devastated by his passing”.
On Thursday, August 29, 2024, the Chairman of the National Media Commission (NMC), Yaw Boadu-Ayeboafoh, signed the Book of Condolence, stating: “Efo, you were a special one who served as a trailblazer in the area of Master of Ceremony.”
“You were without compare and part of the heritage of the National Farmers Day. We have lost a precious gem. Your service to the GJA, particularly in the 75th Anniversary, will never be forgotten,” he added.
Veteran broadcaster Mike Eghan also paid glowing tribute to the former Director of Radio at the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) who was popularly known as ‘The Grandmaster’.
“You have left us unexpectedly. You have left an indelible mark in the media. All we can say now is: ‘Grandmaster, rest in peace’,” he wrote.
The Book of Condolence in memory of Godwin Avenorgbo remains open, from 8am to 5pm each working day, and will close on September, 6, 2024.
Godwin Avenorgbo died on August 19, 2024, after a sudden illness.
His funeral will be held at the Lashibi Funeral Home in the Tema West Municipality, on September 14, 2024, at 1:00pm prompt. The dress code for the funeral is ‘Black and White’.
Meanwhile, the GJA will make a bus available at the Ghana International Press Centre on September 14, 2024, to transport members to and from the funeral venue. The bus will depart from the Ghana International Press Centre at 11:30am prompt.
