Napoli have secured the signing of Belgium striker Romelu Lukaku from Chelsea in a £30 million deal.
The move reunites Lukaku, 31, with manager Antonio Conte, who previously managed him during two successful seasons at Inter Milan from 2019 to 2021.
Lukaku rejoined Chelsea in 2021 for a then-club record fee of £97.5 million but spent the last two seasons on loan in Italy, first at Inter and then with Roma.
Under Conte at Inter, Lukaku scored 24 league goals and played a crucial role in their Serie A title win in 2021, which led to Chelsea bringing him back to Stamford Bridge.
However, he has not featured for Chelsea since May 2022. By selling Lukaku, Chelsea have also offloaded his substantial £325,000-a-week wages.
Conte mentioned in a pre-match news conference that Lukaku could make his debut for Napoli in their upcoming match against Parma on Saturday.
In related news, Chelsea midfielder Tino Anjorin has also made a move to Serie A, signing a three-year deal with Empoli.
Meanwhile, Chelsea and Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli are both in talks to sign Napoli’s star striker, Victor Osimhen, which could help Napoli balance their finances after acquiring Lukaku.
