Ghanaians on social media have reacted to the discharge of the Director of Communications of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Richard Ahiagbah from the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital after he was involved in an accident on July 27.
The accident occurred on the Kumasi-Accra highway near Aduapompo.
Speaking for the first time after he was discharged on Friday, August 16, Richard Ahiagbah bemoaned the many deficiencies in Ghana’s health system.
Following his bitter experience at the hospital, Mr. Ahiagbah said he will henceforth promote a people-centered, outcome-driven health policy regime in Ghana.
“Fighting to hold on to dear life at KATH has been very frightening and painful. But through it all, I have learned firsthand the extreme deficiencies and prospects of Ghana’s healthcare delivery system. From this experience will arise a Turning Point Foundation to promote a people-centered, outcome-driven health policy regime in Ghana. May God bless and deliver us all from evil,” he said.
His comment has since caused a mixed reaction from netizens on Facebook. While others have slammed the NPP’s Communication Director and government for the failure of the country’s health system, other have also wished him a speedy recovery and well-being.
One user said: “Thank God for your life. I pray you see the reason why we need to modern health infrastructure in this country.”
Another user wrote: “Speedy recovery! I hate it when politicians take the healthcare system of our country for granted. When JM was building infrastructure including hospitals, you and your party (NPP) said, “we don’t chew infrastructure”. I’m happy you learned the hard way!”
