The parliamentary candidate for Hohoe on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Efo Worlanyo Tsekpo, has assured the flagbearer of the NDC John Dramani Mahama that they will leave no stone unturned to ensure a victory for the NDC in this year’s elections.
He says they will keep pushing till the last minute to ensure Mr Mahama is declared the president-elect of the Republic of Ghana.
“We will fight till we win,” he said after Mr Mahama visited Hohoe on Thursday as part of his campaign.
“We will double our efforts to ensure we win the elections,” he stressed.
Mr Mahama subsequently held a press conference where he touched on the comment by the National Chair of the NDC Johnson Asiedu Nketia on the peace pact.
He said that signing a peace pact should not be glorified when eight of their members were killed during the 2020 general elections yet nothing was done about the incident.
Mr Mahama says although the party has not yet taken a decision on whether or not to sign the peace declaration, he can appreciate the concerns of the NDC’s National Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia who opposed the signing.
“I read the statement of our national chairman, even though it is not a decision we have sat and taken I can understand the position he is coming from, he is talking about justice.
“We should not glorify the peace pact when people gun down 8 of our compatriots yet nothing has been done about it, no compensation, so then what is the use of the peace pact? As I said we haven’t sat and taken a definite decision on that,” he said.
Johnson Asiedu Nketia had argued that previous declarations that were signed did not resolve any issues.
“Signing a peace declaration doesn’t mean anything to the party, as previous pacts have not yielded any real results,” he said.
