The Member of Parliament for the Obuasi West Constituency, Kwaku Kwarteng, has initiated the commencement of construction of the deplorable Nana Ponko road.
The very critical road in the Obuasi West Constituency has long been neglected, leaving residents and drivers outraged about its deplorable nature.
Residents will now heave a sigh of relief since commercial drivers who hitherto used that road have refused to ply it or charge passengers exorbitant prices due to its poor nature.
When completed, the road will present an easy route to the yet-to-be completed accident and trauma hospital at Bidiem.
The construction of the 0.75km road, scheduled to conclude within six months, is entrusted to Thilex construction Limited, renowned for its excellence in road construction.
During a short ceremony to cut sod and introduce the contractor to the community, MP Kwarteng affirmed his commitment to the constituency’s development and stressed that his tenure as MP has seen the upgrading of more roads in Obuasi.
He touched on the Obuasi internal roads especially the Central Business District road, the Mactina to Court junction road, etc.
The Obuasi West MP called for support for the government and said if given another mandate the government will continue to work to improve their lives.
The site engineer for Thilex Construction Limited, Fred Ghansah, assured the people of Nana Ponko that they will work within schedule adding that materials to commence work are already on site.
He said the scope of work includes drain works, retaining wall, road signs and markings.
The Krontihene of Kunka Nana Osei Mintah commended the Member of the for the decision to give a facelift to the road .
“As traditional leaders, we have been left helpless anytime our people complain about the poor nature of the road. We are extremely happy that at long last, this road will receive the needed upgrading that we are all looking for.”
Nana Osei Mintah assured the contractor of the community’s total support throughout the construction phase of the project.
