This win has propelled Medeama to the third spot, trailing behind FC Samartex and Aduana FC. Samartex had the opportunity to seal the league title on Sunday, but Heart of Lions proved too formidable. Bashir Hayford’s men continued their home dominance by stunning the Samreboi-based club with a 2-0 victory.
Currently, Samartex remain atop the table with 55 points, six points clear of both Aduana and Medeama. While Samartex still have the potential to wrap up the title in their final three games, the two former champions are continuing to push higher and keep the pressure on.
Nations FC, sitting in fourth with 48 points, remain in contention despite their slim chances. They were dealt a significant blow by new second-place occupants Aduana, who secured a 2-0 victory over the Abrankese club on matchday 31.
This means the Ghana Premier League title race may go down to the wire with three rounds of matches remaining.
For Medeama, their impressive recovery in the season may be too late to clinch the title, but their performance is commendable, especially considering their multiple assignments in the CAF Champions League alongside domestic competitions.
Despite it being their debut season in the Champions League, the Tarkwa-based side secured a place in the group stage, where they faced tough opponents like eventual winners Al Ahly. They bowed out, finishing fourth in their group. The fatigue from these commitments, coupled with other challenges, was compounded by the loss of their leading striker Jonathan Sowah, who left the club to join Libyan side Al-Nasr Benghazi.
The last few weeks of the 2023/24 Ghana Premier League promise to be intriguing due to the last-minute shifts shown by these clubs. The Ghana Premier League title race is set for an exciting finish, with Samartex, Aduana, Medeama and Nations FC all vying for the top spot in the final rounds of the season.
