When Nations FC secured promotion to the Ghana Premier League, few anticipated their remarkable run in the top flight.
Nations gained promotion alongside Bofoakwa Tano, who had been absent for 16 years, and Heart of Lions, another club who were entangled in the lower tier for eight years.
With so many newcomers often struggling in the Premier League, there wasn’t much hope for them either.
However, Nations FC have charted a different course, one that has ensured their safety while propelling them to stardom. Currently second in the league standings, they have amassed 14 wins, 6 draws, and 10 defeats.
But it’s at home where Nations have achieved maximum success. Fueled by innovation and a drive to create new ideas for pushing them forward, Nations have been ignited. Buoyed by the amazing Dr. Kwame Kyei Sports Complex venue that positively impacts their performance, Nations have turned their home grounds into a fortress.
Coach Kasim Mingle believes psyching his players up not to lose at home is what’s keeping them motivated and strong at home.
“We psyched them up that if you want to make an impact in the league, you don’t need to lose your home games”
“It’s a philosophy we put into them that if you lose your home game, you’ll fall in the relegation zone because nobody will allow you to beat them in their home,” he said.
In 16 home games, Nations remain unbeaten, winning 10 and drawing six. Some of the best teams have left empty-handed, including Great Olympics, CAF Confederations Cup semi-finalists Dreams FC, and league leaders Samartex, who all tasted defeat.
It was Kotoko who looked headed for maximum points until a late penalty salvaged a draw and kept their home unbeaten run intact, showing the team’s resilience and determination to maintain it in their title pursuit.
The Abrankese-based side just need to avoid defeat against defeat in their final home game on June 9, 2024 to complete a remarkable unbeaten season at home.
In their debut season, Nations have already broken boundaries. However, they hope this run can lead to a title win or allow them to compete for it again next season.
