Former Asante Kotoko captain Michael Akuffo believes the club should provide psychological support to its players to help them overcome their poor run of form.
The Porcupine Warriors have gone seven games without a win, piling pressure on head coach Prosper Narteh Ogum and the squad.
Akuffo suggests that Kotoko, like every club, needs a psychologist to boost the players’ confidence regardless of their opponents.
“The game is changing, and clubs must adjust. We need to change our mode of doing things, especially big clubs like Kotoko. They need a psychologist working behind the scenes,” he said on Sunrise Sports on 3FM.
The former midfielder urges the players to put in maximum effort to meet the club’s standards and deliver the desired results. “Danlad, as the senior player and captain, needs to gather the boys and let them know they need to get out of this situation. If the pressure is on the coach, the same pressure is on the players.”
Akuffo calls on the players to raise their game, emphasizing that they are the only ones who can turn around the club’s fortunes and that of the coach.
Kotoko currently sit 11th on the Ghana Premier League table with 33 points, having won just once in their last 10 games, with seven losses and two draws. Their next challenge is against league leaders Samartex on match week 27.
