The Confederation of African Football (CAF) confirmed earlier on Sunday that the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology, a tool that has been a mainstay in CAF Competitions, is not being used for the ongoing quarter-final second leg of the game between USM Alger and Rivers United in the CAF Confederation Cup
The African football governing body cited the late arrival of VAR equipment as the reason for the decision.
The statement read “Due to circumstances beyond CAF’s control, there will be no Video Assistant Referee technology at the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup fixture between USM Alger and Rivers United in Algeria today.

Regrettably, the VAR equipment was only released at 19:30 today making it impossible to drive the 400km distance between Oran and Algiers and make it on time for the match.”
Alger currently leads Rivers 2-0 with the aggregate score advantage at 2-1 as they aim to reach the semifinals of the competitions.
