Officials of the Electricity Company of Ghana in the Ashanti Region have commenced an exercise to inspect all distribution transformers in the Region.
The exercise is to help the company know the current state of all transformers to enable it serve customers better.
The exercise, which started across all twenty-one (21) districts in the Ashanti Region saw officials of the ECG visiting transformers to carry out inspections and also interact with customers to ensure the continuous provision of stable power supply.
The ECG officials visited transformers in communities Ejisu, Asafo, Asokwa and some places in Adum like Adum Central Market, Bank of Ghana, Telecel Ghana, Ashanti Regional Police Command among others.
The team checked the integrity of transformers and also picked the load readings recorded by each transformer.
Last week, eight high pylons of the ECG in Ejisu area collapsed due to unidentified individuals tempering with them. The vandalised pylons caused power outages in parts of Ashanti Region.
A number of communities in the region, including Kumawu, Bekwai , Antoakrom, Ahwiankwanta, onwe, Manso-Nkwanta, Abankro , and surrounding areas experienced power outages due to the vandalised pylons.
The Ashanti South Manager of ECG, Ing Frederick Kwabena Bediako, in an interview with our news team encouraged the public to report any suspicious individual they see closer to ECG installations like transformers and pylons to the nearest ECG office, police stations.
He also urged customers to report localized faults to the ECG officials around or the security personnel around.
“The exercise was to check integrity of our fuse and others, interact with our customers. We have been concentrating on revenue drive, but we also felt that without the power, it is difficult for us to reach out to our customers and pay their bills”, he said.
He called on customers to desist from illegal connection and pay their bills promptly to enable the ECG serve them better.
He appealed to the customers, opinion leaders within the communities to be on the watch out for these miscreants.
