Ghanaian 100m sprinter Benjamin Azamati believes his career trajectory could have been more favourable had he competed in the Junior Olympics during his formative years.
Azamati is a silver medalist in the ongoing 2023 African Games after Ghana finished second in the Men’s 4×100 relay final on Wednesday and is still Ghana’s fastest man with a time of 9.90 seconds, although he finished fifth in the Men’s 100m final at the 2023 African Games with a 10.45s finish.

Speaking to 3Sports’ Yaw Ofosu Larbi in an exclusive interview about how his career could have had a better start, Benjamin Azamati expressed his thoughts on what could have been a more intriguing career for him if he had featured at the Junior Olympics at a tender age.
“I think it would have imparted my career greatly. Compare yourself to foreign athletes, they started running at a very young age and it shows in the talent they have. But yeah the main objective is the Olympics and yeah it would be a great impact. So it is true that early exposure is crucial.
The Junior Olympics is a variety of sporting events for young athletes around the world under the age of 13, and the experience provides lots of exposure and confidence to youngsters who look to navigate their way through competing in the world of sports.

Although Benjamin Azamati has navigated his path to success without the benefit of grassroots opportunities like the Junior Olympics, he remains determined to reverse his fortunes and earn a spot in the 100m heats at the upcoming Olympics in France later this year. With a few more months remaining until July and August, there are still many developments to anticipate in Azamati’s journey.
