Substitute Ephson was in the right place at the right time to just tap home after the Senegal goalkeeper had parried a shot across by Jerry Afriyie.
The goal came at a time when many fans had grown frustrated over the numerous chances the Black Satellites had failed to convert. Even coach Desmond Ofei cut a frustrated figure at times.
Senegal had come into the game knowing they wouldn’t match the strength of their counterparts. They absorbed pressure and played on the counter. They had a couple of half chances but couldn’t trouble.
Ephson came on for Aziz Issah amid disapproval from fans, as many felt the Dreams FC midfielder was one of Ghana’s threats alongside Sulemana Ibrahim, who was substituted.
But the substitution turned out to be effective as Ephson scored the winner, sending Ghana to the final to face Uganda who earlier in the day came from two goals down to beat Congo.
The final is set for Friday at the Accra Sports Stadium.
