The Black Satellites sealed a place in the semifinals of the men’s football competition in the 2023 African Games.
In a keenly contested battle at the newly completed University of Ghana Stadium, the Ghana U-20 side prevailed, thanks to a 34th minute strike by Jerry Afriyie which ensured Ghana made it through to the medal zone.
With valiant efforts from both sides, in the second half, Ghana managed to keep the score and eventually top Group A with seven points.
In the second game for Group A at the Accra Sports Stadium, Congo secured a 2-1 win over Gambia to finish second with five points. Benin finished with two points in third place while Gambia ended up at the bottom of the group a point.
The win and qualification puts Ghana in pole position to secure another medal at the ongoing African Games with Team Ghana still gunning for its sixth medal.
The female U-20 side will also trade tackles with Uganda in their final group game as they aim to top the group having already secured qualification to the semifinals.
