Military intervention became the only option when rampaging youth blocked the main Offinso-Techiman road to protest what they describe as ‘incessant road carnage.”
Five people are already behind bars.
Two major accidents this year have claimed over 10 lives with several life-threatening injuries at Offinso Sakam, which has become an accident spot in recent times.
The latest accident happened on Friday March 8. A 14-year-old girl was knocked down by a Burkina-bound truck. She died on the spot.
The angry youths blocked the highway to display their displeasure.
It took the intervention by the military and the police to disperse the crowd.
Speaking to Akoma FM’S Kwame yeboah in an interview, the Assembly Member of the area, Ibrahim Yogo said, all efforts to get speed-ramp on the road has proven futile.
“We need speed ramps. We have petitioned the local authority on several occasions, but none has been mounted on the road. We have lost several lives including minors because of irresponsible driving” he told Akoma fm’s Kwame Yeboah.
