A business street in Accra along the Graphic Road has turned into a hub of filth as gutters are choked with stench water overflowing onto the road.
Ironically, traders and hawkers sit and transact business in the foulness.
They openly sell foodstuffs, having their wares displayed along the choked and overflowing gutters.
This defeats the statement, “I will make Accra the cleanest city in Africa,” as announced by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo in 2019.
The government has undoubtedly made strides in making Accra the cleanest city yet some principal streets and market places remain cluttered.
Traders who spoke with our news team indicated that the debris is normally dumped by geeks at night.
Others attributed the situation to the inability of the city authorities to provide waste bins at vantage points.
The traders have challenged the city authorities to begin arresting and prosecuting people for indiscriminate disposal of refuse.
Besides, they have said that the government would not be able to make Accra clean if punitive measures were not put in place to deter people.
