Over 25 government appointees contested in the just ended parliamentary primaries by the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Out of this figure, 5 appointees who ply their trade directly at the seat of government, the Jubilee House, threw their hats into the ring to contest in the primaries. All five of them were successful in their quest to represent their constituencies in the upcoming 2024 General Elections.
Fawaz Aliu works as a Deputy Chief of Staff at the Presidency.
He beat the incumbent John Bennam to clinch the Zabzugu seat. Aliu successfully follows in the footsteps of his predecessors, Francis Asenso-Boakye and John Jinapor, who also successfully transitioned from being Deputy Chiefs of Staff into Parliamentarians.
Frank Asiedu Bekoe is the Director of Affairs at the Office of the Chief of Staff.
Protozoa as he is popularly known has risen through the ranks of the NPP to his current position. A long time aide of the Chief of Staff, Madam Akosua Frema Opare, Protozoa snatched the Suhum candidature from first term MP, Oboafo Kwadjo Asante.
Duke Ofori-Atta has handled various roles at the Presidency since 2017 as a staffer.
The blood relative of the Minister for Finance ousted the incumbent MP for Fanteakwa South, Kofi Okyere-Agyekum-a third term MP and Ranking Member of the Public Accounts Committee popularly known as Arafat.
Dr Gideon Boako has been spokesperson for the Vice President, Mahamadu Bawumia since 2017.
The Economics Lecturer at the KNUST was previously the Ashanti Regional Youth Organizer of the NPP. He won the Tano North slot beating Incumbent and Minister for Sanitation, Freda Prempeh.
Dr Kabiru Mahama is a Technical Advisor at the Office of the Vice President.
The Hiroshima University trained Development Economist captured the candidature for the NPP in his boss’ hometown of Walewale dethroning the Gender Minister,Lariba Abudu Zuweira in the process
