Ruth Ama Gyan-Darkwa a 13-year-old girl has been admitted to the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Ghana (KNUST); one of Ghana's most prestigious state universities; as the youngest freshwoman ever in Ghana. The child prodigy is pursuing a Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in mathematics at 13 years of age, an impressive fete in an education system that requires approximately 15 years in school before going into tertiary education.

We start this week with heartwarming news, Ghanaian Nancy Abu-Bonsrah becomes the first black female Neurosurgeon at the Johns Hopkins Hospital. Abu-Bonsrah left Ghana at the age of 15, and has been in the U.S for nearly 11 years. The first physician in her family, including the extended family, Abu-Bonsrah was matched with Johns Hopkins Hospital to specialize in Neurological Surgery. A hearty congratulations on the remarkable achievement.

To mark the 69th anniversary of the Christiansborg shooting, President Nana Akufo-Addo of Ghana laid a wreath in honour of Sergeant Adjetey, Corporal Attipoe and Private Odartey Lamptey, at the Nationalism Park, Accra, Ghana. The shooting sparked the 1948 Accra riots, and led to the arrest of the Big Six, leaders of Ghana\'s fight for independence including, Kwame Nkrumah, and Edward Akufo-Addo, the father of current president.
