Tensions escalated as the Democratic Republic of Congo blamed Rwanda for supporting rebel fighters, and a rocket killed three people in Goma.    

The South African government said that former President Nelson Mandela’s health remained critical but stable, requiring “medical interventions.”    

A special United Nations brigade formed to neutralize armed groups in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has taken its first military action, firing at rebels menacing the city of Goma.
