The Netherlands have announced their final squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, with Liverpool full-back Jeremie Frimpong emerging as one of the biggest omissions ahead of the tournament.
Frimpong was included in Ronald Koeman's provisional 40-man squad but failed to make the final selection despite featuring regularly for Liverpool during the season.
Koeman explained that the decision was influenced by both form and tactical considerations, while revealing that West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville had been preferred.
“He has dealt with a lot of injuries, but I have also chosen someone else now: Summerville,” Koeman said.
“I like those kinds of players who are reliable in their football. He can play very well on the right side as well. He is very good in terms of his work ethic.”
Summerville's inclusion comes as a surprise given the winger is yet to make his senior debut for the Dutch national team.
Frimpong endured a difficult campaign at Liverpool following his move from Bayer Leverkusen, managing just two goals and one assist in 35 appearances after previously producing impressive attacking numbers in Germany.
The Dutch squad will still be led by experienced stars including captain Virgil van Dijk and striker Memphis Depay, despite the latter carrying an injury concern.
The Netherlands enter the tournament after an unbeaten qualifying campaign and have been drawn in Group F alongside Sweden, Japan and Tunisia.
