Manchester United supporters expressed strong frustration after Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo avoided a red card during Tuesday’s dramatic 4-4 Premier League draw at Old Trafford.
The controversy centred on a late first-half incident in which Semenyo appeared to place his hands on the throat of United defender Diogo Dalot. Referee Simon Hooper issued a yellow card to the Bournemouth attacker, a decision that immediately angered sections of the home crowd. United fans drew comparisons with a similar incident in 2023, when midfielder Casemiro was sent off for grabbing Crystal Palace’s Will Hughes by the throat.
Dalot was also booked for his involvement in the confrontation, and former United defender Gary Neville backed the referee’s decision, suggesting that Semenyo pulled back before the situation escalated and that two yellow cards were appropriate.
The match itself proved to be a Premier League classic. Amad Diallo opened the scoring for United in the 13th minute, but Semenyo levelled with his seventh goal of the season. Casemiro restored United’s lead before Bournemouth produced a strong second-half response through Evanilson and Marcus Tavernier.
United appeared to have won the game after late goals from Bruno Fernandes and Matheus Cunha, but teenage substitute Eli Junior Kroupi struck in the 84th minute to secure a point for Bournemouth.
Both sides finished with nine shots on target in an end-to-end contest that left neither fully satisfied at the final whistle.
Semenyo found the net in the draw, taking his Premier League goal contributions to 10.
