Business Management Consultant Ebenezer Asumang has called on the youth to take advantage of social media to create an extra source of income.
In a rapidly evolving digital landscape, social media has emerged as a powerful tool for both business and entertainment. While entertainment may seem like the primary focus, it is crucial to understand that the business aspects of social media far outweigh the entertainment factor.
According to Mr. Asumang, there are two key ways in which social media can benefit individuals and the youth must take advantage. This, he said, can be through e-commerce and content creation. e-commerce involves creating exclusive products and establishing a platform to sell them directly to a social media following.
“It is crucial for the youth to recognise that social media is not just a means of entertainment but also a powerful tool for business growth. By harnessing the potential of e-commerce and content creation, they can establish themselves as entrepreneurs and influencers in their chosen fields. The importance of social media cannot be overstated, and those who embrace it fully will undoubtedly thrive in the digital age,” he said.
On the other hand, Mr. Asumang explained that content creation plays a vital role in engaging an audience and building a loyal following. He said through videos, pictures, infographics and other creative outlets, the youth can establish themselves as experts or influencers in their respective industries.
“However, despite the immense potential of social media, many individuals and businesses still cling to traditional platforms and methods of promotion. These outdated approaches limit growth and hinder the ability to fully capitalie on the benefits of social media. It is essential for youths to embrace the future of social media fully and prioritise it as a primary channel for business growth,” Mr. Asumang noted.
He made this comment during the Annual Youth Empowerment Convocation (AYEC) maiden edition, organised under the theme ‘Empowered and Equipped: Youth Ready to Lead the Future’. This was organised by the Sakumono District Youth Ministry of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana.
Mr. Asumang added that by understanding the power of e-commerce and content creation, individuals can tap into a vast market and unlock new avenues for success. He mentioned that the future of business and entertainment lies in social media, and those who fully embrace it stand to reap the benefits.
While urging them to take advantage, he also cautioned them on consistency – explaining that: “Consistency is key when it comes to utilising social media for business and entertainment purposes. It is important to establish a regular schedule and stick to it, whether posting content every two weeks or every week. Maintaining this consistency will help build a loyal following and maximise the potential benefits of social media.”

The Minister in charge of the Sakumono District of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Rev. Daniel A. Nyarko, in his remarks mentioned it has become important that the church creates such a platform to address the frustrations of some young graduates struggling with employment.
He noted that the programme was organised to mentor the youth on creating small businesses and ways to sustain it and generate revenue to support themselves. He believes the programme will continue in the coming years, to make an impact on the younger generation.
