Nigerian defender Gabriel Osho has quickly formed strong bonds with his teammates Elisha Owusu and Gideon Mensah since joining the club.
Osho made the move to Auxerre during the summer transfer window after spending four years at English side Luton Town.
In an interview with Flashscore, the 26-year-old revealed his close relationship with the Ghanaians at Auxerre.
“Elisha and Gideon are two of my good friends here. When I first came, they were probably the two that I spoke to the most. They’re good people and really good players as well.”
Osho is enjoying life in Ligue 1 and recently scored his first goal for Auxerre in a 2-2 draw with Lens. L’AJA have been in impressive form and sit in the top half of the table after 15 games.
As for Auxerre’s performance this season, Osho expressed optimism about their strong start.
“It’s been a good start, but if you take the first five it probably wasn’t as good. I think we found a way of playing now, and we’ve kind of locked in on the basics that we need to do in every game in order to get results and ensure that we perform to our to our level that we now set.”
Reflecting on what has changed for Auxerre who were relegated from Ligue 1 two seasons ago, the Nigeria emphasized teamwork and discipline as key factors.
“We’ve kept 11 men on the pitch which is always useful. The manager set a clear plan and we followed it pretty much. So when you do that and you defend well, it gives you an incredible chance to win games and get something out of games. With the players that we have going forward, it’s always possible because they are magnificent,” he explained.
Auxerre face Ligue 2 side Dunkerque in the Coupe de France before going on a two-week winter break.
