The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for Effutu, Alhaji Kassim Zubeiru, has refuted allegations of attempting to steal streetlights from the Assembly’s warehouse.
Contrary to the assertion by supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), in the area, the MCE said he was moving the streetlights to another warehouse owned by the Assembly.
That is because he gathered intelligence that some NDC members had plotted to invade the Assembly and cause destructions.
“I gathered information through my colleague at Potsin that some NDC supporters intended to invade the Assembly’s office to destroy items just as it has happened elsewhere after the elections. I therefore decided to move the streetlights to another warehouse belonging to the Assembly at a location I won’t mention, for safekeeping,”Mr Zubeiru explained to 3news on December 14.
He described the accusation of theft as a pure mischief and entreated the public to disregard the claim.
“Out of mischief, they trailed me and recorded videos and blasted on social media that I was stealing streetlights. But I’ve been in charge of the distribution of streetlights in the last three years and never stole a single streetlight. How then would I be seeking to steal one at this time?“ Mr Zubeiru quizzed.
Meanwhile, he has called on the people of Winneba to be united for development as he pledges to render support where necessary to anyone who would succeed him as MCE.
