The Ghana Premier League continues this weekend with some interesting matchday 5 fixtures with teams chasing for first wins while others aim to bounce back from defeats.
The games will begin on Friday afternoon with Dreams FC hosting Tamale City who are winless in all four matches so far. Dreams FC will hope to prevent three defeats in a row as well as back-to-back home defeats after losing to Karela United at the Crosby Awuah Memorial Park before losing to Accra Lions last weekend on their turf.
Two matches will follow on Saturday involving Accra Lions and Nsoatreman FC at the Accra Sports Stadium. After losing their season opener against newly promoted Kotoku Royals, Accra Lions have won all three other matches and sit second behind Aduana stars on the league log. They would however face the menace of another newbie in Nsoatreman FC on Saturday afternoon.
The other Saturday fixture would see the joint lowest-scoring side Kotoku Royals clashing with Accra Hearts of Oak at the Cape Coast Sports Stadium. The 2020/21 champions will go into the game with their first win of the season against Bibiani Gold Stars (2-1) fresh on their minds while Kotoku Royals aim to score only their second goal after striking once in all four previous games.
League leaders Aduana Stars FC will lock horns with sixth-placed Legon Cities at the Nana Agyemang Badu I park on Sunday. The Ogya lads’ current position is by virtue of three wins and a draw from their first four matches in the 2022/23 betPawa Premier League.
Their opponent have also recovered well after losing to Medeama in their first game. The Royals have bounced back with two wins and a draw with both wins coming on the road.
Berekum Chelsea will host last season’s survivors Real Tamale United at Golden City Park. Both teams drew 1-1 with their opponents last weekend. However, Chelsea are yet to lose a game with two wins and two draws from four matches.
Bibiani Gold Stars will invite an unimpressive King Faisal side at DUN’S Park. The Kumasi-based side are the only team to suffer defeats in all games played. King Faisal has also been the worst defensive side allowing nine goals and also scoreless in all away matches.
In other matches, two sides, who were undefeated at home last season, Karela and Bechem United will trade tackles at the Crosby Awuah Memorial Park. While Karela continues their impressive home form with two wins and two clean sheets at home this season, Bechem United have lost all two away games.
Champions Asante Kotoko will try to champion a bounce back-to-winning-ways after their defeat to Bechem United last Thursday. The Porcupine Warriors lost to the hunters after thumping city rivals King Faisal’s last Monday.
They will now battle new boys Samartex FC who lie 13th on the league log. Samartex have drawn all of their matches and will be hoping to register their first-ever Ghana Premier League win against Kotoko at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
Accra Great Olympics and Medeama SC will cap off all the fixtures with a clash on Monday afternoon when the two sides face off at the Accra Sports Stadium.
The Oly Dade boys seem to be the more comfortable side as Medeama SC look to bounce back from back-to-back defeats against Berekum Chelsea and Aduana Stars. All nine matches, barring any changes will kick off at 3 pm at all venues.
