Miss SRC Ashanti beauty pageant results in dispute 

The result of the Miss SRC Ashanti, staged at the CCB Auditorium at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Kumasi (KNUST) has been disputed.

The programme, which started six hours late, judged Ajara Aminu Mohammed of Tepa SHS as the winner.

The 1st Runner-up was Sandra Abena Asante of Ejisuman SHS, while Godgiver Opoku of Kumasi Wesley Girls SHS (WeGeHe) was the 2nd Runner-up, with Amy Amponsah of New Edubiase SHS placing fourth. There were three hectic rounds of project proposals, cultural display, questions and answers and electronic voting to booth.

None of the three judges announced scoring the performance of the contestants, except to announce the winner and the two Runners-up and the fourth position, after seven contestants had failed to impress the judges.

But the results have been contested, as the Students Representative Council of the

St. Joseph Senior High Technical School, which fielded a contestant, Natalya Freiku, has requested for a review of the Miss SRC Ashanti Beauty Pageant Results.

Nana Kwabena Adu Boahene, SRC patron of the aggrieved School, in a petition to the Ashanti Regional SRC Coordinator expressed his utmost disappointment and concern about the results of the Miss SRC Ashanti beauty pageant held last Saturday November 30, 2024.

He cited bias and total disregard for basic rules of the contest.

“As representatives of St. Joseph Senior High Technical School, we strongly suspect bias and non-application of the basic rules for the contest”, he noted.

Their concerns are premised on the fact that the school’s representative, Miss Natalya, was leading with an excess of approximately 18,000 votes, only to be placed in the 6th position, while the winner had significantly fewer votes, approximately 8,000.

The petitioner noted that this discrepancy raises serious questions about the transparency and fairness of the voting process.

As a result, the SRC patron, on behalf of the St. Joseph Senior High Technical at Bekwai, has demanded a thorough review of the results to ensure accuracy and fairness and a detailed explanation for the significant disparity in votes between Miss Natalya and the winner.

He has also demanded the full scores for the performances of all contestants, including their respective votes.

“We believe that it is essential to uphold the principles of fairness, transparency and accountability in all competitions”, the petitioner stated.

Nana Kwabena Adu Boahene, while looking forward to a prompt response and resolution of the matter further stated that until these concerns are addressed, and Miss Natalya is given her rightful position, St. Joseph Senior High Technical School will be forced to withdraw from all future Regional SRC competitions.
