Karela United earned a deserved 2-0 victory over Hearts of Oak at the Aliu Mahama Stadium in Tamale on Sunday, strengthening their push toward the upper end of the Premier League table.
The hosts took the lead in the 19th minute through a well-worked move. Fateh Mohammed delivered a superb cross into the area, and Eric Antwi attacked it with precision, powering his header beyond goalkeeper Solomon Agbasi.
Karela continued to threaten and were rewarded a minute before halftime. A defensive lapse from Agbasi gifted Antwi a simple tap-in, sealing his brace and giving the Pride and Passion a firm grip on the contest.
Hearts of Oak enjoyed more possession, but their attacking play lacked sharpness in the final third. They registered eight attempts at goal, yet only two were on target, with Karela maintaining control of the key moments. The home side produced six shots in total, three of which tested the goalkeeper.
Karela’s win lifts them to 7th place with 20 points, just one behind Hearts and six off the top spot, placing them well within reach of the top four. Young Apostles await them next.
Hearts of Oak, now 6th, will aim to regroup quickly as they prepare for a tricky fixture against Nations FC.
