Graduates of Cardiff University have officially launched the first ever international alumni chapter in Ghana to deepen ties between Ghana and the university. This initiative aims to harness the expertise of Ghanaian graduates of the UK-based university to contribute to the nation’s socio-economic development.
The Cardiff University Alumni Ghana Chapter also aims to unite Ghanaian professionals who have studied at the UK-based institution over the past decades, with a mission to create a community that leverages collective knowledge to “advance Ghana’s course.”
Speaking at the launch, the Co-Chair of the Ghana Chapter, Mina Addico, emphasised the significance of the chapter to their individual and national development.
“If you look at the landscape, whether it’s sports, whether it’s business, whether it’s communications, journalism, you always have a Cardiff alumni who is doing amazing stuff.
“But the question we ask ourselves is how do we bring this community of people with all their knowledge and expertise together?” she quizzed.
According to her, the answer lies in forming a platform for mentorship, coaching and collaboration, highlighting there is a “huge Cardiff alumni community in Ghana” whose potential remains largely untapped. She said the new chapter will work to change that, noting that the chapter aims to mobilise expertise to contribute to national development while advancing Cardiff University’s strategic objectives across Africa.

By creating a vibrant and engaged alumni network, the university hopes to strengthen its brand and foster deeper educational and research partnerships on the continent.
“We know or we believe that knowledge doesn’t reside in one person’s head, literally. So it’s a power of community. The first step to achieving that is to launch or bring all of us together so that’s what we’ve done,” Mrs. Addico explained.
According to her, this represents an opportunity to pool resources, experience and passion to mentor the next generation and contribute to nation-building. This marks a shift from informal connections to a strategic, purpose-driven network focused on creating impact as work to mobilise Cardiff University alumni begins.
