The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has stayed silent on the future of Black Stars head coach Otto Addo following a high-stakes meeting on Wednesday, despite mounting public pressure for his dismissal.
The session, which included the GFA Executive Council, Regional Football Association Chairmen, and Addo himself, centred on Ghana’s dismal 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign. Ghana failed to win any of their six matches, scoring just three goals and missing out on the tournament for the first time in two decades.
Addo presented a 56-page technical report, detailing the team’s challenges and proposing a vision for rebuilding. He accepted full responsibility for the Black Stars’ poor showing and outlined plans to improve discipline, accountability, and team cohesion.
The GFA’s statement did not address Addo’s job status. Instead, it focused on a commitment to rebuilding the team, stating, “This process will focus on fostering collective will and single-mindedness to rebuild the Black Stars into a formidable force.”
However, 3Sports understands the GFA is inclined to retain Addo despite his poor record of just two wins in 10 matches since his appointment in March 2024. With six consecutive winless games, doubts linger over his ability to guide the team through the ongoing 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
The Black Stars are currently joint-top of their qualifying group, but scepticism remains over Addo’s capacity to recover from the AFCON debacle and secure World Cup qualification.
