The Management of Metro Mass Transit (MMT) Company Limited has refuted claims that a high number of it’s fleet of buses across its 16 depots are grounded due to lack of regular maintenance.
This follows reports in sections of the media claiming that about 300 Metro Mass Transit (MMT) buses at Abrepo Junction in Kumasi have been grounded due to lack of regular maintenance, while it revealed that most of the buses are not on the road due to lack of regular maintenance.
But the Company in its Press Statement has asked the general public to disregard what it described as “false and malicious publication” meant to harm the reputation and image of the public transport entity.
A press release from the Communication Unit of the company , signed by George Asante (Corporate Communications Manager) said:” As a company that has been in existence since 2003, we have a robust Technical Department that foresee the maintenance and repairs of our fleet of buses across our 16 Depots in order to ensure their safety at all times.”

REJOINDER: MORE THAN 300 METRO MASS BUSES GROUNDED OVER MAINTENANCE
The Corporate Communications Unit of Metro Mass Transit Limited (MMTL) has learnt of a story item on GhanaWeb published on Sunday 4th November, 2018 sourced from MyNewGh.com which was attributed to an unnamed driver of the company alleging that some 300 (three hundred) buses of the company have been grounded at Abrepo Junction in Kumasi due to lack of maintenance.
We wish to state emphatically that the said publication is false, malicious, and intended to create mischief and public disaffection towards the reputation of the company. As a result, Management wishes to express disappointment in the manner and form the story was captured and published.
The company, through its Corporate Communications Unit, has maintained an open-door policy which saw an improvement in the way we engaged the media over the last few years. In the same spirit, we would have thought that any news item that was purported to have been collected in relation to Metro Mass Transit Limited, would have been verified with the Corporate Communications Unit before onward publication.
As a company that has been in existence since 2003, we have a robust Technical Department that foresee the maintenance and repairs of our fleet of buses across our 16 Depots in order to ensure their safety at all times.
We wish to call on the general public to disregard the false and malicious publication deliberately put together which has no credible source, and continue to rely on Metro Mass Transit Limited for safe, affordable and reliable means of transport in the country.
Thank you
Signed:
George Asante
