Asokore Mampong Based Youth development incubation centre, the no business as usual hub has turned out 40 young graduates expected to lead change in their communities.
The gamma group, mainly graduates from tertiary institutions, were groomed for six months in entrepreneurial and employability skills.
The cost of training was fully covered by the European Union and the SOS Village with support from the Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly.
The project formed part of the objective of the NBU hub to tackle graduate and youth unemployment while improving on the economic prospects of the Asokore Mampong Municipality.
Already some business successes have been recorded with some of the graduants registering their businesses with others employed in reputable institutions.
Addressing the graduates, the family strengthening program coordinator of the SOS, Mavis Ekpeh psyched the youth to be ready to face the challenges of launching out into the world of work.
“As SOS Children’s Villages Ghana we want to assure you of our continuous support. Out there, it is not easy sometimes you just need someone to listen to your ideas, someone to pep you up, someone to link you to the right person or the right area and SOS can assure you of that,” she advised.
Hub manager Samuel Aboagye was positive the program had chalked successes well above the projections for a first batch.
He told Ultimate News’ Ivan Heathcote – Fumador, “We were able to get an 80% success rate and that’s really good because this is our first learning. It means in our subsequent ones we are going to do better,”
Some of the graduants who have already registered their businesses and gained employment in reputable organisations shared how helpful the program has been to them
Safiatu Ismail who registered for the employability class was elated she had an opportunity to work with Exponential Education. “I have learnt a lot about how to be a professional at the workplace and how to avail yourself for opportunities.”
Mustafa Yussif Denar one of the promising entrepreneurs who has set up the Easy Bag Enterprises is in the business of making paper bags and packs. He was excited, “I am passionate about the environment because it takes longer years for rubber bags to decay but with the use of paper bags, it is environmentally safe to dispose off.”
Misan Lukman Lamin who currently owns a printing press indicated “Through NBU I had the opportunity to be a business development officer WITH MBC Africa to learn from other businesses because it is a platform that offers capacity development for businessmen.”
The NBU Hub is targeting to directly train at least five hundred youth in the Asokore Mampong Municipality and indirectly to build the capacities of a targeted two thousand young people in the municipality.
