Social Impact organisation, the E.M.B Kayaye Ahenfie Project has developed an innovative mobile app called the “KAYA APP” where busy corporate workers who cannot frequent the market can contract head porters otherwise called Kayayes to do their shopping and groceries for them.
This innovative mobile app effectively rebrands the operations of these head porters and turns them into Grocery shoppers.
With this app, anyone can do a shopping list and link up with the Kayaye Ahenfie where a Kayaye will be referred to do the shopping at a fee.
The founder and Odikro of the E.M.B. Ahenfie Project Naomi B. Kokro recounted that the project was birthed from a personal experience where it had virtually become very difficult going to the market to buy her food stuff because of her busy corporate duties.
“The Kaya App comes from my own experience as a corporate woman where I am always on the run. There was a day I was so super busy and I needed some groceries from the market and I was sitting there asking myself what if I could get someone to do the shopping and bring them to me,” she narrated.
“My team was already working with and training head porters so we thought why can’t we come up with a simple app so that the corporate person coming to town can just take a picture of the order; send it to us; we do the service and send it to them,” she narrated.
Chair of the project and the Obaahemaa of the Kayaye Ahenfie Rita Krampah who also dabbles as Ultimate Fm’s 2018 Mother Supremo pointed out that the project also draws from the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal eight which seeks to find decent and sustainable sources of income for the head porters.
She told Ultimate News’s’ Ivan Heathcote – Fumador that apart from the grooming, the ladies have also been trained in Bead Making and other crafts which they can be doing while they wait for their shopping orders.
Mrs Krampah added that the App is also helping to meet a social need as a percentage of the fees charged for each service is channelled to supporting persons living with Autism.
Already, the Kayayes have welcomed this app and are looking forward to making a decent living out of their professions.
“I think it is an exciting thing,” a Kayaye Mamfua Adambe shared adding that “this will enhance our work and we hope this will not stop.”
Bukari Amamatu who plies her trade in the markets was elated, “they have explained how the app works and we want to see how it will help the Kaya work.”
The app which has already won two awards can be used in 138 cities across the world and the team is open to training any group of Kayayes and unemployed youth who organise themselves to do grocery shopping in similar fashion.
So instead of hustle through the market to do shopping; you might want to download the Kaya App from the play store to get your shopping done and delivered to you.
