UK-based Ghanaian Afro-Pop singer Fuse ODG has stated that the popular Black Entertainment Television (BET) awards is not real and that they don’t respect Africa.
According to him, the players behind BET are jumping at Africa because of the Black Panther movie which broke World sales record.
He said BET cannot be the yardstick to measure Ghanaian music which has gained African recognition.
“BET is not here and they don’t understand what goes on here in Ghana, they are not real, they don’t respect Africa in the first place. They are not here helping us build schools, they are not here helping us build our economy. The only time they are jumping at Africa is because of the Black Panther movie, Ghana has influenced African music worldwide and BET is not going to be the measurement as to how influential Ghanaian music is,” he pointed out during an interview with BelaGio on Starr Drive.
His comment follows Ghana’s inability to be nominated in this year’s BET awards edition.
He charged Ghanaians to stop praising platforms such as BET and start building their own platforms and reward their artistes saying it is pointless for Ghanaian musicians to hype BET awards.
“I don’t think BET should be the measurement of success or how great our music is. Some of the greatest Musicians never received an award, Bob Marley is one of the greatest musicians but he never received an award. I think we need to stop praising these platforms and start building our own platforms and reward our artistes,’ he said.
Some Ghanaian musicians have in the years received BET awards.
