Some two thousand Basic Education Certificate Examination Candidates in the Asokore Mampong Municipality in the Ashanti Region have been taken through rudiments of writing their final exams.
The municipality has for years, not fared proudly in the Basic Education Certificate Examination rankings released by the examining body the West Africa Examination Council.
The event spearheaded by Non Governmental Organisation, ROMP Foundation brought together WAEC examiners to teach the students little mistakes that cost them to lose valuable marks leading to their failures.
Over fifty schools predominantly in the Zongo and other less privileged communities expected to sit for the exams scheduled for June benefitted from the three day training.
The speakers took the students through the various subjects and the particular issues they should be averting their minds to in answering questions.
Motivational speakers were also invited in all the sessions to pep up the students and inspire them to aim for the best in their examinations.
Some of the students who spoke to Ultimate News’ Ivan Heathcote – Fumador shared some tit bits they had gleaned from the event.
Stella Kwarteng a student of the Pakoso R/C JHS recounted, “Firstly we should read the instructions and not be under any pressure. We have to control ourselves and follow instructions like writing our candidate names and full index numbers.”
Aisha Umar Faruk from the Al – Bilal Islamic school, shared, “We have been told to take it out of our minds that our friends are there to help us. If they see you copying or talking to someone, your paper can be cancelled.”
Chief Executive Officer of the ROMP Foundation Zainab Fofana told Ultimate News her foundation is optimistic schools in the Municipality will begin showing up stronger among the best performing schools in the Ashanti region if these engagements continue.
She explained, “As at now, they are ranked around 20 in position from the ranking of Ashanti Region and I will be very pleased if they move up to the teens and as time goes on, when we continue this, we will find our schools among the first three.”
An executive member of the association Salamatu Ali expressed need for all stakeholders in communities to show greater concern about the education of their wards as the catalyst to push them up the social ladder.
