In the midst of hardy bunch of journalists who are steeled to grapple with reality, I am always at a loss when some of these journalists become inconsistent even with their thoughts, actions and inactions.
The pomposity and arrogance of these journalists who see their media opportunity as conferring on them unbridled power to abuse and vilify must be checked. This is a food for thought, and as you perfectly know, does not always come coated in honey so please bear with me if what I am about to say will secrete some bitter taste in your mouth.
The shelf-life of the arrogant and untutored journalists will be short and in this competitive environment, the public who will be the judges will judge from their wallets. The last thing we need at this moment is not a killjoy who will try everything possible to dampen the atmosphere with unpleasant comments, thoughts and actions. These journalists depart from the path of truth and replace conjecture for facts, when you conjure figures and allow others to manipulate information for the purpose of destroying others, you not only destroy the reputation of your victims, you turn your profession into a gamblers playground, undeserving of a place of honour.
How can a senior journalist worth his salt posits that “how can you have a Kingdom in a democratic state? Ghana is a unitary, secular republic”? Does this socalled senior journalist understand what democracy means and what a republic stands for? To the all-knowing senior journalist who thinks he knows all, is the United Kingdom not a democratic state and all the states under Commonwealth, are they not republic states? So this socalled senior journalist does not know and appreciate that King Goodwill Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu is a King in a democratic state of South Africa with KwaZulu –Natal as the capital of the Zulu Province? So Mr. senior journalist does not know that the former USSR was an authoritarian republic that functioned like a monarchy while the United Kingdom is also a monarchy that functions like a republic?
And as to whether the constitution recognises any chief as a King or not, can we all help answer these mind boggling questions?
- Is it not a fact that the Asantehene, whom they are doing everything possible to reduce to a Paramount Chief, has over 62 Paramount Chiefs and traditional areas under him?
- Don’t the socalled senior journalists know very well that Asanteman stretches beyond the Ashanti Region and Ghana? Were they not witnesses to the recent home coming of the descendants of His Excellency Félix Houphouët-Boigny, first president of Cote d’Ivoire from 1960 to 1993, led by His Excellency Henri Konan Bédié, president of Cote d’Ivoire from 1993 to 1999, to Kumasi and paid homage to their grandfather, Asantehene, tracing back their roots? These are the Baolé people who are Asantes originally from Nsuta.
- senior journalists, please, without wasting your time, are you also ignorant of the fact that the Asantehene is the only Chief in Ghana who can enstool and destool a Paramount chief?
- Lastly, we want to also know from these socalled senior journalists if there is any other Chief in Ghana who has absolute control and authority over all the lands in one particular region and even beyond?
And let’s hope we will not have to wait too long for a response. In the meantime, Mr. Senior Journalists, thank you for your attention and forgive me if I have not helped your appetite.
